Mural Murmors Around Town!

It's been quite some time since the last posting here, but we're beginning to kick it into high gear with the mural at the Interactive Resource Center on Washington St., downtown near the bus depot. It's a wonderful place and it's great to be working with them. Before the mural on Lindsey St. was completed we knew that we wanted to do a mural with the IRC. So after laying out a logistical plan we've started conducting interviews asking people, "What makes home?"

Answers have been pretty consistent across the board, community, familiar faces, a place to rest ones head, not having to go from place to place, laughter, warmth, and so on. All of these responses will influence the mural, which is in the process of being dreamt up by our lead muralist, Justin Poe.

We plan to begin painting in mid-March, once it begins to warm up, and after some swinging fund-raising!

So, needless to say, we look forward to your support and seeing you in March!

Come Celebrate this Mural!

It's amazing to think what the power of a single question can lead to!
Just a few months ago we asked the first people, "What would make Greensboro a Healthier City?"
Now look how much all of those answers have grown!

Come enjoy the power of thought, reflection, and action, in a community setting this Friday!

This Friday, August 5th, 6-9pm, we will be celebrating the mural unveiling of Greensboro's Healthy mural. We'll be celebrating at the corner of Lindsey St. and Church St., and if you need an address for your gps use 300 Church St.!

Aside from many wonderful people, we'll have music from Greensboro's very own radical drum corps Cakalak Thunder, a moon bounce, corn on the cob, peaches, and watermelon from local farms, some resources, and a few surprises!

So come enjoy this fine August Friday in style!

The power of community, through paint!

As the month of painting comes to a close it is necessary to acknowledge the community involvement and interactions with this mural. The interactions have taken place while we've been painting, people asking if they can bring their kids to help, or just thanking us in general for beautifying their walkway. Then one evening, I had been at a meeting in the library, and decide to sit across from the wall for a while. My goodness, what traffic and engagement took place! There were people walking home after work, the bus ran by a few times, and some girls  coming from downtown stopped and took pictures with the wall!
This mural is so much more than just some paint on a wall, it is a story, it is an amalgamation of many of Greensboro's voices. If the wall can help build bridges and incite thought, then we have done the right thing.
Let us keep up the good work, for a brighter future!
